Howard & Frances Pence
Founders
“Started from scratch” in 1970 by Howard & Frances Pence, Howard W. Pence, Inc. has become a respected company with a proven record of quality production at affordable pricing. Trained as a journeyman electrician by the U. S. Army during World War II, Howard worked with the Civil Service at Fort Knox Kentucky until 1962. After a short stint as an electrical educator, he started Howard W. Pence, Inc. as a residential construction company in 1965 to fulfill his interest in the full construction industry. Working side by side from their home office, Howard & Frances developed and built homes, apartment complexes and one of the first subdivisions in Elizabethtown, Kentucky.
Unfamiliar with the government contracting process, he worked as a subcontractor under a local contractor and was quickly able to bid and construct projects as a general contractor. Howard and Frances along with their sons, Mike & David, have led and expanded the company to service contracts throughout the Southeast.
Howard and Frances remained actively involved in the daily operations of the companies until their deaths at the ages of 90 (Frances) and 97 (Howard).
